Rukia carries the guilt to her former lieutenant Kaien's death on herself. She is convinced that it was her fault for killing him without trying to find some way to save him. This puts an everlasting weight on her shoulders. She is the person who puts on many different faces, some kind, cruel, sad, as most people she has many different emotions.
Upon meeting Ichigo Rukia appeared as 'not the nicest' person, but as their relationship progressed the sweeter, kinder and caring Rukia come out.
She's a fairly tough, and is known to never give up or take any crap from anyone, especially when it comes to Kon. Rukia can be stern though. Most of the time she is focused on the mission and on doing her job as a Shinigami, but that doesn't mean she can't be lighthearted sometimes.

Tsukishiro: Creates a large circle that freezes everything within its range included the air.
Hakuren: This attack summons a wave of ice that is capable of destroying multiple enemies.
Shirafune: Repairs the sword when it is broken. It also impales or freezes whatever touches it during this time.

History:
Rukia never got to experience much of the human life. She died as an infant and was brought to the Soul Society with her sister Hisana who soon abandoned her because she was un able to take care of her little sister. Rukia grew up in Rukongai as an orphan without a family and befriended another outcast known as Abarai Renji..
When the time came Rukia and Renji both entered the Shinigami Academy. Although Rukia was more advanced than Renji in Kidou, Renji was more advanced than Rukia in fighting. Not long after she was adopted into the Kuchiki family due to a last wish of Hisana, to her husband, Kuchiki Byakuya before death. She graduated the Shinigami Academy and entered the 13th squad in the Gotei 13.
Although Rukia was a perfect candidate for a seated position due to her ability she was not granted this right due to her brother Byakuya who did this to keep her out of the dangerous missions.
At first Rukia did not fit in so well with the new squad, but she then befriended a lieutenant, Shiba Kaien. He was a kind man and Rukia often trained under him. She soon became quite fond of Kaien, even loved him to an extent. One night Kaien went to get revenge for his wife, who was killed by a Hollow. The Hollow invaded his body and Rukia had no choice but to kill him and that choice haunted her to.
